As we did in February 2015, discover hoppers, rotees, and the unforgettable kottu !
The hoppers is a flat half-ball bread made from rice flour and salted coconut milk. It is cooked in a wok pan, explaining the fluffy round shape.
It is savoured as a side dish with any food. Its smoothness makes it a real treat!
The rotee is, in fact, a crêpe from enhanced flour (highly stretchable), cooked on a hob.
It is usually filled with egg and vegetable.
The rotee is chopped into a few squares and served on a plate
The local samossa is different from the current Indian one we’re used to : this one isn’t fried !
The process is similar to the rotee except for the triangular shape, filled with veggies and spicy mashed potato
It can however sometimes be fried with breadcrumbs. It is then displayed with other doughnuts (including the dhol ones ) on the tables in local hostels (Restaurants)
You pay for what you eat only!
It is a une crêpe - an other one - still cooked on the hob, but chopped in very small pieces and mix fried with veggies.
Eat it on the go...
...or stay a while and enjoy a ginger beer with it !
These dishes are sold for 100 Rs-SL ( o,68€ ) !
Nevertheless, and despite all its creativity (!!!), we have to admit that we got tired of these dishes after a while!
