Behind the scene of Mauritius TV
Usha Seetohul, professional singer, is used to perform for religious events.
She took part in the 2014 edition of a local live tv singing competition, split in 2
categories (Ghazal: muslim songs and Hindustan: hindu songs).
Having a christian father, it’s safe to say Usha is well-versed in religious culture !
Thanks to Usha, we witnessed the making of one episode of the show as part of the audience.
Live from the huge MBC studios.
The MBC facilities were quite recently built close to the Réduit/Moka-Ebène business park, we can glimpse here :
The minimalistic green screen set...
...does not detract from the impressive technical equipement.
The pretty presenter is starting to work the room.
Semi finalists get up on stage, the tension rises.
Usha is one of the semi final contestant, having won 10 other events to get to that point. She’s also just got out of her brother’s wedding she organized herself.
Without any preparation, inbetween the ceremony and wedding reception, she’s still going for the win. The newly wed and their families are part of the audience too.
The performers take turn to sing on stage for about an hour.
But Usha is tired. Planning a wedding is no small task.
It shows in her smile, her voice doesn’t ring as clearly as it used to for the jury. She only just misses the finals.
Her whole family and the wedding are there to comfort her though. She leaves to oversee the rest of the wedding reception as soon as the end credits start rolling.
We leave the studios too, thankful for the fun experience.
